Music-lovers descended on Whitehall Recreation Ground in Rugby for the highly-anticipated return of Fake Festival at the weekend.

Six brilliant professional level bands took to the pop-up stage housed underneath a huge festival tent on Saturday.

Festival fans were enchanted by pro-level performances from fake bands for Queen, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana, Stereophonics, R.E.M. and Depeche Mode, who filled the air with life anthems and guitar riffs that defined the late 20th century’s global music scene.

Outside of the main event tent, there was a chilled out summer vibe as families and social groups enjoyed the beautiful summer weather in a relaxed social space.

Street food vans provided tasty food options for the crowds and there was a really positive friendly atmosphere.

First time festival goer Lou said: "I had heard that last year’s festival was excellent and I didn’t want to miss out this year.”

Just before 1pm the first of the six bands R.E.M. By Stripe set the bar high and the festival had begun; the tone for the day was set and the atmosphere was electric.

People sang soulfully along to Chilli Pepper’s classic Under the Bridge and lost themselves in the mandolin riffs of R.E.M.’s classic Losing my Religion.

The crowds were equally captivated by Depeche Mode’s upbeat sounds of I just Can’t Get Enough performed perfectly by professional fake band Enjoy the Silence, who had the audience singing along and clapping their hands in the air.

Nirvana Tribute captured the youthful energy of Nirvana’s heyday with the band’s signature style radiating through crowd pleasers like Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium and Come As You Are.

There was a soulful outpouring of intense lyrics from the crowd as Stereotonic performed Maybe Tomorrow and the crowd raised the roof singing along to the banging beats of Dakota.

By the time the final band Flash, which was the Queen’s tribute band, took to the stage, the atmosphere was electric.

The lead singer Brian’s powerful performance of Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You had the crowd captivated and waving their arms in the air. In the audience at the front of the stage was Queen fan Annie who said: “It was like Freddie was here on stage tonight. Brilliant performance.”

So when the bands packed away, the crowds left the festival party having had a joyful time and reflected fondly on the 11 energised hours of enjoyment and celebratory entertainment, all in a professional, safe and impeccably well run Fake Festival and all on our doorstep.

Festival-goers left smiling and were still singing along to their favourite songs of the night as they made their way home.

Fake Festivals launched 2007, bringing the party right to the heart of local communities.

A spokesman said: “We’re all about putting on a show that'll light you up , rock your world , shake you out of the ordinary, and keep you buzzing for days.”

They were true to their word.

Let’s keep live music alive and bring on Fake Festival 2027.
