Rugby woman Fern Hodges was flummoxed when she inherited a box of King Edward Imperial (large cigars!). Not knowing any smokers, she decided the best place for them was her compost bin.

Lisa and Graham Proud, landlords of The Seven Stars, had a better idea. They offered them to customers of the pub and invited donations for the RNLI.

When Graham Warren, chair of Rugby's RNLI Fundraising Branch, emptied the collection lifeboat a grand total of £112 was produced.

He said, "We wouldn't encourage anyone to smoke, but those who do have raised a valuable contribution to this life-saving service. We're very grateful for the support of Lisa, Graham and their customers."
