Changes to school bus pass rules

CHANGES to school bus services will mean pupils who do not have passes will no longer be able to buy tickets.

Until July, some services allowed students not entitled to free transport to pay a daily fare or buy a pass directly from the operator.

From September this will no longer apply on most services. Only students with passes issued by Warwickshire County Council will be able to travel. This includes pupils entitled to free transport or those who have bought a pass under the authority’s vacant seats policy.

Cllr Heather Timms, responsible for children, young people and families policy, said changes were necessary for several reasons.

She said: “We have to reduce spending while ensuring that the council gets value for money and most importantly that students are transported safely.”

Free transport will continue to be provided where a student has a legal entitlement to free transport. Call 742059 for information.
