Boris Johnson is self-isolating after meeting an MP with coronavirus
Mr Johnson will be working from Downing Street during his period of self-isolation, after being contacted by the NHS Test and Trace system.
‘I have no symptoms, but am following the rules’
The Prime Minister posted on Twitter on the evening of Sunday 15 November, explaining that he must now self-isolate for two weeks, after the Test and Trace systems notified him that he has been in contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.
On Thursday 12 November, Mr Johnson spent around 35 minutes with Tory MP Lee Anderson, who lost his sense of taste the next day.
Mr Anderson posted on his Facebook page to say he was self-isolating with his wife, who is also clinically vulnerable, after they both tested positive for coronavirus.
The Prime Minister said on Twitter, "I have no symptoms, but am following the rules and will be working from No 10 as I continue to lead the government's pandemic response."
This comes as the government currently prepares a policy relaunch, after internal rows and recent departures from No 10, including the Prime Minister’s Chief Adviser, Dominic Cummings.
Downing Street has said that there will be a number of "critical announcements" this week, which will lay out Mr Johnson's "ambitions” for the UK.
Advocating for the NHS Test and Trace system
The Prime Minister posted a video on Twitter on Monday morning, explaining that the NHS Test and Trace system is working “evermore efficiently.”
Alongside the video, a caption read, “Hi folks, I’ve been instructed by our NHS Test & Trace scheme to self-isolate for two weeks, after being in contact with someone with Covid-19.
“I’m in good health and have no symptoms, and will continue to lead on our response to the virus & our plans to #BuildBackBetter.”
Mr Johnson added, “I am absolutely confident that together we can beat this disease”.
He also encouraged people to get a coronavirus test if they have any symptoms, and to “follow the rules” if NHS Test and Trace notifies them to self-isolate.
