More than 60,000 people have been given a Covid-19 vaccination across Coventry and Warwickshire.

National figures have been regularly released but today (Thursday) is the first time that the figures have been broken down into regions.

However, no official specific figures are available yet for Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth.

Doctors have told our sister paper in Rugby that 5,000 people in the Rugby borough have had the vaccine, including 81 per cent of care home staff and 98 per cent of people over 80, have received the jab.

Here are the new figures which show the number of people who have been vaccinated for COVID-19 as recorded on the National Immunisation Management Service (NIMS) database, between December 8 and January 17:

Coventry and Warwickshire

First dose for people under 80: 30,537

First dose for people over 80: 29,382

Second dose for people under 80: 813

Second dose for people over 80: 3,935

Cumulative total doses to date (from Dec 8 to Jan 17): 64,667

The overall total for the country of people having had the vaccination is 3,981,445.

A spokesperson for the South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group said: “The delivery of the Covid19 vaccine in Coventry and Warwickshire is well underway, with 20 local vaccination centres now open.

"We would encourage anyone who is eligible for the vaccine and has been offered it, to have it.

"The vaccine is safe, effective and the best way to protect yourself and others against coronavirus.”
