Eat your way round town’s taste trail

ONE of the most popular events at Leamington’s Food and Drink Festival is the town “taste trail” which this weekend features eight different restaurants.

Admission to the festival in the Pump Room Gardens is free. But for a charitable donation of just £1, visitors can also wander off to sample some of the house specialities at Cafe Rouge, which offers a taste of France, Italian pasta at Strada, pizza at Pizza Express, South Indian cooking at Kayal, or a wider Pan Asian menu at Sabai Sabai.

Then there’s traditional English delicacies and good old fashioned pub grub on offer at The Shakespeare, the Clarendon, the Benjamin Satchwell and the Sozzled Sausage. Vote for your favourite tastes and you stand a chance of winning dinner for two at the winning eatery.

It’s the third year the 470 Leamington traders who form part of the town’s Business Improvement District (BID) have sponsored the event which features regular favourites like the Aga Rangemaster cookery theatre, Reggae Reggae Sauce creator Levi Roots and 100 stalls of local meats, pickles, wines, organic produce, cake and chocolates.

BID executive director Helen Smith said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local traders to showcase their culinary skills and the quality of food and drink they offer to a much wider audience.”
