Independent Leamington town centre pub to close for refurbishment and relaunch
Popular Leamington town centre pub The Copper Pot will close on Sunday (January 11) for a major refurbishment.
Previously owned by Greene King, the Warwick Street venue was taken over in March 2025 by Gamechanger Group, led by father-and-son duo Matthew Cummings-Coules and Clive Coules.
Since acquiring the Copper Pot, the family-run business has worked to transition the pub from a managed chain operation into a fully independent, locally focused venue.
The pub, which is well known for showing live football and other sporting events, will temporarily close for five days “for a significant refurbishment”.

This refurbishment will include the installation of large-format HD screens and a fully integrated sound system for live sports commentary.
A brand-new menu will also be introduced, featuring British pub classics alongside relaxed bar bites.
Matthew said: ““We’re a small, independent business, and this refurbishment is about reinvesting into a pub that means a lot to the local community.
“We want The Copper Pot to feel like everyone’s local — whether you’re here for the football, a quick pint, or a long catch-up with friends.”
The Copper Pot will reopen with a ‘soft launch’ on Friday January 16, followed by a Grand Opening Celebration event on Saturday January 24.
The launch event will feature live music from the band WildFlower Whisky, prize giveaways throughout the day and ‘a few surprise moments yet to be revealed’.
Gamechanger Group also owns and runs the Banbury venues The Wine Vaults, The Chatsworth and Also Known As.
