Brian Holt backs widow’s walk in husband’s memory

A Wellesbourne woman who lost her husband to kidney cancer last year is walking a hundred miles to raise thousands of pounds for research into the illness.

Jane Cure lost her husband Ade at just 53 after a four year battle with the disease. He had been diagnosed just two weeks after they returned from their honeymoon.

Now she is asking businesses to sponsor her, and join her on her “Walk for A Cure” through Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Northamptonshire. She wants to raise money for the James Whale Fund for research into the causes and treatment of a cancer which claims nearly 4,000 lives a year across the UK.

Leamington estate agency Brian Holt has pledged to donate £100 for every new instruction it receives throughout August and September – a pound for every mile of Jane’s walk from every seller.

Brian Holt manager Jane Canning explained: ”Jane is a truly inspirational lady.

“I met her last year when she walked 144 miles from Birmingham to London along the Grand Union Canal and was delighted to get involved and personally sponsor her in her amazing feat - or should I say feet!

“Her dedication to raising funds to support this amazing charity is tireless and there is always something going on that Jane is involved with to help the charity raise funds.

“This year I wanted get more involved with the fundraising and decided that it would be great to get our Leamington office involved in supporting the cause. We are therefore pledging to donate £100 for every property we place on the market in August and September that we sell.

“This would be a great way to boost the appeal and also help our clients feel they are doing something which will make a difference to the lives of those suffering from kidney cancer.”

Jane Cure has raised more than £50,000 for the cause since beginning the fund raising she and Ade started after his diagnosis. Last year’s walk, which she undertook just a few months after his death, earned £18,000.

Jan Canning added: “We are right behind her to help top that this year if we can.”
