Heritage gives boost to town’s foodbank

Since arriving in Kenilworth in 2009 Heritage Property has supported many local charities and with the annual Christmas lights “switch on” looming large on the horizon the company has come up with an innovative way to help the local community by supporting the Kenilworth Foodbank.

John Ansell, branch manager, said: “At the beginning of October Richard, Jane and I normally discuss which charity to support in the run up to Christmas. This year’s decision was an easy one for us to reach. Foodbank has recently arrived in Kenilworth and we all felt that the work they do for the local community is very worthy of our support.”

Kenilworth Foodbank relies on donations to provide food for local families who are experiencing financial difficulty. Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB and police identify people in crisis and issue them with Foodbank vouchers which are redeemable for three days worth of food.

John added: “Every year we open late for the Kenilworth Lights switch-on. This year we’ll be asking members of the public to donate non-perishable, in-date food by leaving it at our shop on the corner of Warwick and Station Road. In return we’ll be giving away a glass of our managing director, Richard Hill’s, now famous mulled wine and a mince pie to anyone who makes a donation. Richard’s well known TV personality sister, Sarah Falkland, of BBC Midlands Today, will also be present on the evening to help collect Foodbank donations.

Nessa Kirby, treasurer of Kenilworth Foodbank said: “We have already been touched by the support we have received from the local community with their donations and in a short time we have assisted a great many people who are experiencing difficulty in the local area. We are really grateful to Heritage Property for offering to help support us this year in very testing times. You can find a list of suitable food to donate on our website, www.kenilworth.foodbank.org.uk. Please don’t think we just need grand gestures as small donations given lots of people could make a huge difference to families who really need your help, but particularly as we approach the festive season.”

Mark Phipps, sales manager of Heritage Property said: “You can leave foodbank donations at our shop anytime between now and Christmas and not just at the lights switch-on on November 30.”
