Housing market activity builds momentum

According to its figures, there have been more properties coming on to the market, more viewings on these properties and more sales achieved for vendors.

In June alone, Connells’ statistics show there were nine per cent more homes available and 11 per cent more sales when compared to June 2010.

There has also been a significant shift in the sale of new homes which were up 44 per cent in quarter two compared to the same period last year.

These figures give a strong indication that in 2011 the housing market has been improving as this year has progressed.

“Connells data shows a strong upturn in activity in 2011, especially in the last few weeks where we have seen a surge of interest from both buyers and sellers,” says Christine Levon, branch manager for Connells.

“Over the last three months we have received more requests for market appraisals on properties, more sellers instructing us to market their property and, perhaps most significantly, 11 per cent more sales.”

Connells’ sales figures last month were up on 2007 (a boom year for property).

Connells has also seen increased interest in its mortgage services on the back of improved sales activity and a renewed interest in remortgaging.

With a greater range of mortgage products now available, the branch is urging would-be buyers to come into the branch and discuss their options.

“In June 2011, Connells mortgage activity was up by 38 per cent compared to the same month in 2010, a strong indication that greater numbers of buyers are returning to the market,” Christine added.

“I am delighted to see these levels of activity across the housing market and would urge anyone who is thinking of selling their home to get in touch soon to take advantage of the type of interest that Connells is currently seeing.”
