Law firms show their quality

Thirty-eight law firms across the Midlands have secured the national Law Society’s new Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) accreditation, the quality mark for residential property lawyers introduced earlier this year.

CQS, the mark of excellence in home-buying, is designed to recognise high standards in the residential conveyancing process and make it easier for anyone buying or selling a home to select a solicitor who has met those standards.

Firms have to complete a detailed application process, and rigorous assessment before they can call themselves a CQS law firm. Once accredited, practices must undergo a strict assessment, compulsory training, self reporting, random audits and annual reviews in order to maintain the CQS status.

Law Society President Linda Lee says: “CQS firms go through a detailed and thorough process before they can gain recognition for the service they provide and obtain the CQS badge of excellence.

“Anyone looking to buy or sell their home in the Midlands can now look for the CQS logo when deciding who should handle the legal aspects of the largest purchase of anyone’s life. If you are recommended a solicitor, or your estate agent suggests a particular firm to handle the transaction it should be an automatic response to ask if they are CQS accredited. As well as a legal-industry designed practice management standard to follow, CQS firms sign up to the Client Charter which is designed to ensure the client – a home buyer or seller – receives a quality service from the solicitors handling the conveyancing process.”
