Vanessa runs marathon to help little Fletcher

Vanessa Staite, sales negotiator for RA Bennett & Partners inLeamington, has just been awarded sales negotiator of the month, out of a region consisting of 17 branches, for a best ever sales result in March.

However, she isn’t just busy selling houses. She has also been training for the London Marathon which takes place on Sunday April 26.

Vanessa is running the 26 mile course for Cystic Fibrosis Trust because her cousin Neil’s little boy, Fletcher Keen, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis just over a year ago.

Each week five babies are born with cystic fibrosis and in total there are 10,000 people in the UK living with the condition.

It is an inherited disease caused by a faulty gene. This faulty gene disrupts the activity of a protein that controls the movement of salt and water in and out of your cells, so the lungs and digestive system become clogged with mucus, making it difficult to both breathe and digest food.

Vanessa said: “The London Marathon has always been something I have aspired to do having already ran three half marathons, although the thought of the 13 mile finish line I am used to only being the half way point is a terrifying one.

However, I couldn’t think of a more worthwhile charity to be running for. Neil and Jo are amazing parents who intend for Fletcher to have as normal life as possible and I can’t help but totally admire them.

Despite all that he has to tolerate he is such a happy little boy. I’m unbelievably proud to be playing a part in raising money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust in the hope that one day they will not only develop improved treatments but find a cure so that Fletcher, and thousands of others, will no longer have to withstand the daily burden of treatments associated with the condition.”

Vanessa would like to thank everyone who has contributed to her fundraising target so far, in particular her business sponsors which include: Countrywide, RA Bennett & Partners, Medwell Hyde, The Retreat, The Body Exchange and Nic at HB Creative who designed her running vest.

Neil and his wife Jo have already raised £5,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Vanessa has currently raised over £2,500.
