Contrary to what people tend to think, Greyhounds and Lurchers, known as Sighthounds, are often couch potatoes and don’t need as much exercise as everyone expects, instead after an energetic burst they like nothing more than cosying up on a big bed in a warm home.
These seven leggy lovelies at Dogs Trust Kenilworth are all looking for a relaxed pace of life where they can put their paws up on a comfy sofa.
Emma-Jane Thomas, manager at the Honiley based rehoming centre, said: “Sadly many Greyhounds and Lurchers end up in rescue centres like ours waiting for a loving home to spend the rest of their lives in. People often assume they are dogs that need lots of exercise but that’s not the case. They are definitely strong and fast but they are surprisingly lazy and very loyal, which is why they make great pets.
“All of our Sighthounds are different in their personalities, but all have the desire to find a loving home in common. We hope people will be encouraged to find out more about Greyhounds and Lurchers and, fingers crossed, adopt one!”

5. Billy
Breed: Greyhound Age: 7 Billy is a sweet lad who does have a sensitive side, but once he knows you can be a bouncy lad. Billy has lived with a dog before so he could live with another one providing introductions go well. He could live with children 14 years or over who will give him space when needed.
6. Barney
Breed: Lurcher Age: 6 Barney is a real foodie and his eyes are often bigger than his belly! He’s not too keen on being left alone but his canine carers have been helping him feel more comfortable with this and can now be left for short periods providing he has something tasty to keep him occupied. Barney enjoys the great outdoors and is happy to meet up with doggy pals, but would need to be the only dog in his new home. He’d like an adult-only home with a large secure garden where he can stretch his legs and run around until his heart’s content.
7. Sam
Breed: Greyhound Age: 2 Shy Sam is a very sweet, gentle lad who is finding life a bit scary at the moment. Once he comes out of his shell, he shows his cheeky side, so will need patient adopters who can help him feel safe. He loves his food and will hoover up every last crumb! He enjoys quiet walks without too much hustle and bustle and he has been trained to walk with a muzzle as he has a tendency to chase! Sam could live with children aged 14 and over and could potentially live with the right dog in his new home but they would need to be of a similar size, calm and give him his space when needed! A home with a secure garden would be ideal and, once given time to settle, Sam will make a loyal companion.
