Plans for the new Anytime Fitness gym, which could be built on the first floor of Talisman square above shops such as Sylvesters the Jewellers, were objected to by the town council at a meeting on Thursday June 16.

While not opposed to a new gym in principle, members voiced concern over the opening hours, which they described as being “alien” to Kenilworth.

Warwick District Council’s Environmental Health department also voiced concerns.

A spokesman said: “Due to the proximity of the gym to residential accommodation, we would have concerns that the internal lighting could cause nuisance to nearby residential properties during the night time hours.”

The plan has already drawn objections from many residents and businesses, including nearby gym Curves.

However, the plans have found support from people who wish to see the empty office space used and think a 24/7 gym will allow more people to find time to exercise.
