Air ambulance called to help injured rider

A TEENAGER was airlifted to hospital after being thrown from a horse into a fence in Southam on Saturday.

Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) were able to land at the field where the incident took place.

The 14-year-old patient was complaining of lower back and pelvic pain.

Crew members administered pain relief to the patient before immobilising her using a scoop stretcher, a neck collar, and a pelvic binder.

The casualty was then airlifted to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further treatment.

A WNAA spokeswoman said: “Summer is often our busiest time of the year as people enjoy various outdoor activities.

“Equestrian accidents equate to approximately ten per cent of our rescue missions.”
