Air ambulance flies in to help heart patients

TWO men who were suffering from heart problems were treated by air ambulance staff within the space of two hours in Leamington town centre on Friday.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) was called to the first incident, in which a man in his 70s had suffered a heart attack, at about 11am and reached the scene within six minutes.

A WNAA spokesman said: “We were able to work effectively with our colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

“They drove us and the now immobilised patient the very short distance back to the waiting helicopter.

“We were able to airlift him immediately to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire alerting the cardiology unit en route so he received the best possible treatment as fast as possible.”

In the second incident the WNAA was called to help after a man in his 50s had collapsed in the street and was in cardiac arrest.

The helicopter landed in tennis courts at the top of the Parade just after 1pm.

The WNAA doctor used advanced life support techniques and travelled with the patient to Warwick Hospital by land ambulance.
