And the handcrafted sets to be exhibited at Radford Road church have been made from a wide variety of materials - including coconut, banana skins, walnuts and paper.

Churchgoers and their friends have loaned their own treasured nativity sets to the church - which number more than 150 and counting - which show Mary, Joseph and Jesus in the stable.

Such is the fascination with the display, that when the church laid out its international collection last year, people came from all over the Midlands to see it and church representative were invited to speak about it at a regional diocesan meeting.

Church vicar, the Rev John Carrier, who organised the exhibition, said: “More than 400 people came to see it last year. It was so successful that we decided to repeat it this year.

“We have even more exhibits this year. I am sure people will come to see this truly amazing array of artefacts which we have brought together.”

The exhibition runs from Tuesday (December 10) until Saturday December 14 from 2pm to 4pm every day. Entry is free but donations are being taken for the Phillipines disaster appeal.
