Anglo-French memories

IT has spawned life-long relationships and an appreciation for all things French.

Now the founder of the Leamington Anglo-French Society, which ran from 1964 to 1986, is preparing to write a collection of memoirs about the group – and she is calling on past members to get in touch.

Ninety-four-year-old Arsinoe Wainhouse, who has been made MBE for her services to French-Anglo relations, knows that many people will have plenty of colourful anecdotes to share. She said: “There must be hundreds of people who will have memories. The contributions I have had so far have been very interesting. A lot of people have gone on to do wonderful things. I have counted 14 couples who got married but I know there are more than that.”

Mrs Wainhouse would also like to hear from those involved in the Wainhouse Awards, which she set up in 2000 to reward young people for achievements in French learning. Memories, photographs and cards can be sent to 49 Regency House, Newbold Terrace, Leamington CV31 4HD or people can call Mrs Wainhouse on 421670.
