Annice could be Leamington’s oldest woman

FIVE generations of the same family have celebrated the 108th birthday of Annice Jenkinson.

The birthday girl and her family and friends were joined by staff at Four Ways care home in Lillington for a party to mark the amazing milestone on Sunday.

Mrs Jenkinson (nee Watkins) was born in Court Street, Leamington, on October 21 1904, during the reign of King Edward VII.

Theodore Roosevelt was the president of the USA, Peter Pan by J M Barrie had its premier on the London stage and Captain Scott commanded his first ship, The Discovery, on the National Antarctic Expedition.

New inventions at the time included the neon light, and corn flakes.

Mrs Jenkinson went to St Peter’s school in Dormer Place before she began her working life in service at a house in Kenilworth.

She later worked at the Warwick Laundry in Millers Road and Lockheed in Tachbrook Road during the Second World War.

She married her late husband Harry Jenkinson at St John’s church in Leamington in the early 1920s.

The couple lived in Warwick until 1977 when they moved to live in Lillington with their daughter Joyce.

Mrs Jenkinson became a resident at Four Ways in 2009.
