Another nasty attack on the Hillmorton side of town

At about 6.30am two men entered the One Stop Shop in Lower Hillmorton Road where they threatened two female members of staff with a hammer and demanded keys for the till.

One of the women raised her hands to protect herself from the hammer and sustained an injury to one hand which was treated by ambulance staff at the scene.

The offenders made off on foot with a quantity of cash.

The men were described as being in their twenties, of average height and build and wearing scarves over their faces. One was also wearing grey jogging trousers.

Detective Inspector Jon Belcher said: “We are considering a link between this robbery and a robbery that occurred at Maddens newsagent in Hillmorton Road, Rugby, on Sunday, November 13.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw anyone or any vehicles acting suspiciously.

“We would also like to identify the owner of a white van in the area of Kingsley Avenue, Rugby, at around 6.30am this morning, Tuesday.”

A 31-year-old man from Rugby has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident at Maddens on Sunday and remains in police custody.
