Are street lights needed? Tell officials your view

STREET lights could be switched off at night on roads across Warwickshire - and residents are being asked for their views.

The county council, which manages highways and transport issues, has already consulted the police, road safety and community safety teams over the proposals - which officials believe could cause crime levels to drop.

Cllr Peter Butlin, responsible for highways and transport issues, said: “The reasons for introducing part-night street lighting are primarily to make budget savings and meet our carbon emissions targets.

“It is important to note that we have been working closely with the police, community safety and road safety teams to ensure that the changes are not going to have a negative impact.

“The scheme has worked well in other parts of the country. Rest assured, we will review any changes that may need to be made as we move forward.”
