Balloon art brings cheer to Warwick Hospital’s cancer unit

THE walls of Warwick Hospital’s Aylesford Unit have been brightened up, thanks to the efforts of two women who live in the area.

Sue Howells, winner of the Fine Art Trade Guild’s 2008-9 Best-Selling Living Artist in the UK award, painted a mural of a skyline with coloured balloons floating in the air to place at the unit’s entrance. She also donated artwork for the main corridor.

Her friend Valerie Rooke, who asked her to paint the mural, donated funds to South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust to go towards other items needed at the unit.

Ms Howells said: “I decided to design and paint something that was a focus point for patients before they received care using the original theme of the unit and by incorporating my own style. Both myself and Valerie thought it was an excellent way to give something memorable back to patients and staff.”

The trust’s chief executive Glen Burley said: “The trust is always very appreciative of donations from grateful patients or members of the community.”
