Battle of Edge Hill re-enacted again

Members of the living history group the Sealed Knot staged their annual re-enactment of the Battle of Edge Hill on the grounds of Kineton Sports and Social Club last weekend, with a beer and cider festival running alongside.

The battle, which took place on October 23, 1642 in the nearby village of Edge Hill, was the first of the English Civil War.

Event organiser Mel Codd said: “There were some heavy showers on Saturday, but we still had a reasonable turnout, with around 150 people. But on Sunday, we had a big crowd - possibly up to 400 people.

“It’s always a good event. This is the eighth year we have done it and we are still pulling in the crowds so it does continue to appeal.

“It’s good that people are interested in finding out about what happened hundreds of years ago in the locality.”

A new permanent exhibition about the Battle of Edge Hill has opened at St Peter’s church in Radway.

Made possible thanks to Heritage Lottery Funding, the exhibition showcases artefacts from the battle and include details of the effect of the battle on the local population as well as those directly involved, as well as graphics and touchscreen units.
