Becoming a published author at the age of 94

A dream came true this week for a 94-year-old Kenilworth woman who celebrated the publication of her first book.

Sonia Tudor, who lives in Kenilworth Manor nursing home in Thickthorn Close, wrote the narrative for Making the Most of it around 20 years ago for her daughter. Once the book was finished it was stored away in a cupboard until recently, when it was recovered and published.

Mrs Tudor said: “My daughter Jenny wanted to know about my life so I started writing about it for her and rather enjoyed it.

“It tells the story of my early life, and then my time in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force.”

The author was born during the First World War and spent years in boarding schools after her parents separated.

Before moving to Kenilworth around 50 years ago, Ms Tudor got married, became a banker in Hong Kong and lived on a farm in Cornwall.

She said: “Like all people, my life has been a mixture of good and ba d.

“I have always had an adventurous spirit and I think I made the most of the chances that came my way.

“I am glad I lived the life I did and it’s so wonderful to see the first half of my story in print.

“Hopefully my second book will be published next year.”

Jenny Blair added: “My husband Hamish and I are very proud of my mother.”

Making the Most of it can be bought in Kenilworth Books in Talisman Square or online.
