Berkswell Scouts need £400k for new hut

The group has already raised around £260,000 over the last few years towards their target through a combination of traditional fundraising and donations from charities, but would like more businesses to help them out with sponsorship.

A spokesman for the Scout group directly appealed to businesses in the area. He said: “As a local business you have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of local young people. We hope you can help us in reaching our appeal target by supporting us financially, thereby investing in the future of our community.”

The group are offering three business membership packages - silver, gold and platinum - which range in price from £250 to £1,000.

In return for a donation, businesses will have their name on a plaque in the hut showing they supported its construction, a silver, gold or platinum framed certificate to be displayed in their offices, and a feature in the group’s quarterly newsletter which goes out to all parents.

Berkswell’s current Scout hut was built in the 1960s, and is the hub for the village’s Scouts, Beavers, Cubs and Explorers.

Along with the upkeep being prohibitively expensive, the current hut is in poor condition. The hut has a tendency to leak whenever it rains, and it also has no access for disabled people.
