Although the rain arrived just after Father Christmas made his appearance at the town centre festivities, which took place last Friday (November 29), Val Steele, of the committee, said that everyone there “decided they would enjoy themselves anyway”.

She said: “Father Christmas normally sees around 175 children, but this year, he saw 262. It was the best turnout we have ever had.”

New this year was the funfair, provided as a donation, while there was also an ice rink, which remained in the town centre for the rest of the weekend.

Other attractions included hot food and drink and 16 stalls, all of which were raising money for many different causes, including Save The Children, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, the League of Friends, Southam In Bloom and Southam Gymnastics.

Mrs Steele sad: “Between them, they raised £3,061, which is incredible seeing as the event only lasted for two-and-a-half hours.

“All the hard work was worthwhile.”
