Beware of fires during Christmas period, Warwickshire team warns
The latest figures show that 17 per cent of all accidental household fires across the UK take place in December, so the county’s service is warning people to prioritise safety during the festive period.
Community safety and youth development manager, Moreno Francisco, said: “The hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations can often push fire safety out of our minds.

“Christmas is a time for celebrating with family and friends and we want to keep it that way. By being aware of the risks and making a few simple checks, you can ensure that you and your loved ones can celebrate safely.”
Safety tips include making sure there is a working smoke alarm installed on all levels of the house, checking on older relatives and neighbours, avoiding cooking after having consumed alcohol and never leaving cooking unattended.
Candles should also not be left unattended and kept out of the reach of children and away from decorations, cards and wrapping paper, fires, lights and heaters.
