Brakes’ chairman lays out club’s aspirations

Leamington FC’s chairman has put out a rallying cry to councillors for help to push the club forward after its promotion success this season.

Jim Scott made a speech at a recent meeting of Warwick District Council highlighting the club’s off-field success since it reformed in 2000.

He also spoke about the club’s short and long-term goals as it prepares for its first season at Conference level for 30 years.

Mr Scott said: “The club has gone from a time when hundreds of people turned up in a field 13 years ago to see its rebirth.

“It has also gone from being a business generating £23,000 to one that generates half a million, which is 100 per cent self-generated.

“We have received limited support over the years.”

With 400 players across all of its teams and 100 volunteers helping out, the club is “aspiring to achieve great things”, Mr Scott said.

He said that he was passionate about Leamington FC being at the heart of the community.

He said: “It can only be sustainable by being at the heart of the community and involving children and senior citizens.

“We are one promotion away from a situation where we could be playing the likes of Luton Town and Grimsby at the ground. Our location is a problem. The club will only grow so far as long as there is a location issue.

“There is an opportunity here for the district.

“There’s no limit to aspiration, it’s more about facilities.

“Any support we can get in the short term will assist us with the development and cost of new facilities would be gratefully appreciated. We have to find a further £80,000 this year.

“Every part of the club has been built by the fans, we can do so much more.

“We’re going to progress, that’s a promise.”
