Bridging the gap for thriving club

Andrew Robson paid a visit to Kenilworth Bridge Club - the fourth largest of its kind in the country.

Andrew, who is a former world and European bridge champion, attended the club’s January meeting to give a masterclass and tips to 160 eager members.

As well as getting into some games, members celebrated his success during a day which proved very popular.

The layer was last year part of the England team which won the bronze medal in the European championships - the country’s best result in more than 20 years.

In 2013 he was made an OBE for services to bridge and charity.

He writes a daily bridge column in The Times and has written numerous books about the game.

The thriving Warwick Road club welcomed the renowned player as members were keen to pick up tips and learn all they could from the day’s talk.

Describing the event as a huge success, club chairman Chris Lewis said: “Andrew is not just a brilliant player but also an outstanding teacher.

“Getting him to Kenilworth was a coup for the club.”

Kenilworth Bridge Club has more than 460 members and runs classes for beginners and improving players throughout the year.

It also hosts regular bridge sessions at all levels. Visitors and new members are welcome.
