Broken pavements are an accident waiting to happen, warns Rebecca

SHOPKEEPER Rebecca Clarke has been warning customers to take care when walking down West Street in Warwick because of the state of the uneven pavement and to beware of people riding motorised scooters along at high speeds.

The county council has confirmed the uneven path is on their list awaiting maintenance.

But Rebecca, who runs the Exquisite Mistakes clothing agency at 10, West Street, said: “A lot of elderly people walk past my door and they find the loose and uneven paving stones very difficult to negotiate.

“On top of that we are right next to a parking space and have cyclists and adults on motorised scooters shooting along at quite high speeds.”

Among those treading carefully recently was 89-year-old Austin Griffiths and his disabled wife Joy, aged 88.

Austin said: “We hope this job gets done. There are a lot of uneven paving stones and some that rock as you step on them.”
