Emergency services spent over an hour rescuing ‘Billy the bull’ who got his head stuck in a tree in Rugby on Monday morning.

Firefighters were called out just before 11am on October 26 after the animal was spotted with his head wedged in the tree within a field off Barby Road.

Members of the large animal rescue team and crews from Rugby and Southam had to use a winch, strop and riot shield to pull the large animal free from the tree where it had stuck its head that morning.

A spokesperson from Warwickshire Fire Service said the team did “a great job” freeing the animal.

He said: “The large animal rescue team did a great job getting the bull free.

“The bull who crews named Billy was released back in to the field and seems none the worse for wear for the ordeal.”
