Brogan Stewart, who studies at Warwick University, has volunteered for the university’s Warwick in Africa project and wanted to spend six weeks working with children in Tanzania.
She applied for funding to the Catenian Association’s Bursary Fund, which helps young people carry out voluntary work across the world, so members of the Leamington branch, president Peter Tolan and bursary fund organiser Patrick Reddin, presented her with a cheque at the university campus.
Brogan, 21, said: “I am really excited and looking forward to my visit and meeting the children and people out there and I am really grateful to the Catenian Association for the help they have given me.”
Brogan will give a talk about her experiences in Tanzania to the Leamington association after she has returned.
Peter Tolan said: ”It is really fitting that Leamington Spa Circle was asked to present the cheque to Brogan because around 90 per cent of our circle membership is signed up and donates annually to the bursary fund.”
