To make the case for the towns being represented by one MP, supporters of the 1885 campaign coordinated speakers at the Boundary Commission for England’s hearings which took place at the Pump Room in Leamington last Thursday and Friday.

Warwick and Leamington Labour Party member Ben Wesson, one of the founding members of the 1885 campaign, said: “It was great to see vast consensus for keeping Warwick and Leamington together as one parliamentary constituency at the hearings.

“Warwick and Leamington form a community of common interest and should continue to be represented as such in the House of Commons.

“They have been recognised as one cohesive and social unit, together forming the centre of a constituency since 1885.

“Since that time, successive boundary reviews have all correctly concluded that the two towns form an integrated community at the heart of the constituency.

“We hope that this review will mirror the outcome of previous ones.

“Local people, political and faith representatives, businesses and charities all attended the hearing to let the Commission know that we are stronger together.

“We hope the Commission now heeds our call and reconsiders its proposals.

The campaign has cross party support.

Thomas Raynor, a member of Warwick and Leamington Conservative Party, said: “The overwhelming consensus seen throughout Thursday’s and Friday’s hearings clearly demonstrates the opposition to these proposals.”

The 1885 campaign is still collecting signatures for the petition to keep Warwick and Leamington together as one constituency.
