Care home celebrates 20th anniversary

STAFF and residents have celebrated the 20th anniversary of a Cubbington care home for the elderly.

The party took place at Cubbington Mill in Church Lane recently and included drinks, nibbles and a grand anniversary cake.

Highlights of the event included a performance by Lillington Ladies’ Choir and a speech by Jean Appleton, a volunteer whose mother Hilda Knight was the first resident to live at the home.

Mrs Appleton and Liz Moran, the senior regional operations director for Barchester Health and the former manager of the home, were presented with bouquets of flowers by general manager Debbie Allen.

Mrs Allen said: “Everybody had a really good afternoon.

“We have a really relaxed environment here with fantastic gardens and our food has a really good reputation as does the care and service we provide.

“We hardly even advertise as most people hear about us through word of mouth.”

The home was built on the site of an old saw mill and opened as Westminster House in 1992.

Barchester took on the management of the site about nine years ago.

Cubbington Mill has 52 residents who receive 24-hour nursing care from 65 staff with the help of some volunteers.
