The Wardens junior football club has bought six new goals thanks to cash from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund.

The national grant, designed to help develop and refurbish grassroots facilities, means that old and damaged posts at the Glasshouse Lane club can be replaced.

Paul Calver, junior football chairman, described the grant as an excellent boost for the young players.

He said: “These will make football more accessible to local children and young people and replace our older and damaged goals.”

Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: “This development will provide a real boost to football in the area.”
