Castle tree-house application to be heard

Landscape historian Christine Hodgetts has added her objections to proposals for extended “glamping” as well as 20 lodges and five tree houses at Warwick Castle.

Writing to the district council on behalf of Warwickshire Gardens’ Trust, Ms Hodgetts said the scheme, due to be considered on Tuesday (Nov 11), minimises the importance of Foxes Study.

This is the wooded area which castle managers believe is set far enough away from the Grade I listed landscape, designed by Capability Brown.

Many of Warwick’s voluntary tree wardens are against any changes to the woodland, although others see increasing the length of time visitors stay at the castle has a beneficial affect on the wider town’s economy.
