Children can learn how to create games at new after-school club in Leamington

Participants at Code Club, which is aimed at nine to 11-year-olds, will learn how to use Scratch, HTML and Python coding and at the same time, develop their analytical and problem-solving skills and creative thinking.

Part of a nationwide network of free volunteer-led after-school clubs, Code Club gives adults resources to lead projects during the sessions so they can teach children how to program by showing them how to make computer games, animations and websites.

Each term the students will progress and learn more, while at the same time using their imaginations and making creative projects.

During terms one and two, they use Scratch to teach the basics of programming; during term three they learn the basics of web development using HTML and CSS; and in term four they learn Python.

There is also online training available for our volunteers so that anyone - whether a teacher or not - can run a successful Code Club.

Gill Colbourne, south Warwickshire area librarian, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity. Places are free but need to be booked as it is a first come, first served basis.”
