Children gain Olympic experience in London

SPORTING inspiration was gained by schoolchildren from across south Warwickshire who watched and took part in events at the Olympic Stadium in London.

Pupils from Whitnash Primary, All Saints’ Juniors in Warwick, St Patrick’s Primary in Leamington, St Margaret’s Primary in Whitnash, Campion School in Leamington and Round Oak School in Warwick were given the chance to travel to the stadium in Stratford, London, during a trip arranged by the Central Warwickshire Sports Partnership.

The children were lucky enough to be some of the first in the country to see the stadium facilities being put to the test as they spent the morning watching some athletes events in the Sainsbury’s UK School Games. They also took part in sports and healthy eating activities.

Separately, 80 youngsters from Kineton High School also visited the stadium to watch the final day of the School Games.

Assistant headteacher Nikki Stevenson said: “The students have been inspired. It was a fabulous experience for them all and their enthusiasm and genuine excitement were wonderful to see.”

And three lucky children from St James Primary School had a taste of glory as they were permitted to parade around the track at the stadium, as part of their Olympic-inspired ‘Gold challenge’, raising funds for the NSPCC.
