The Leamington-based international dance organisation Motionhouse is looking for eight to 13-year-olds to attend new weekly classes at its Spencer Yard studio. Students will then be able to take part in a performance at the end of each term.

The new venture, Motionhouse Junior, follows the success of Motionhouse Youth, which was one of five Midlands companies selected to perform at the MY Dance Festival in Nottingham in April this year.

Motionhouse, whose artistic director Kevin Finnan MBE choreographed the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, describes its programme of dance for young people as “exciting”. The company now also hosts dance and administration apprenticeships.

Executive director Louise Richards said: “Working with young people has always been at the heart of what we do, teaching alongside the professional theatre and festival shows that we tour around the UK and internationally.

“More than 6,600 children and young people came along to a range of different workshops that we ran last year and our large scale community spectacles would not achieve such extraordinary success without the fantastic performances of young amateur performers.”

The new Motionhouse Junior classes start on Thursday January 9 from 5.30pm to 6.45pm and will take place every Thursday evening from then on. Young people aged 11 to 19 can still join the Motionhouse Youth classes, which take place on Tuesdays from 4.45pm to 6.15pm.
