Leamington charity Kids Run Free is hosting the event at Edmondscote Athletics Track in Leamington on Thursday July 7, as a culmination of this year’s Kids Marathon initiative - during which the charity encouraged pupils to run short distances during their lunch hour to make up the distance of a marathon over the course of the school year.

The festival, now in its third year, enables children to run their concluding laps on a professional 400m athletics track.

More than 200 children are expected to take to the track between 10am and 12.30pm.

Commonwealth Games 200m gold medallist Marcus Adams will present awards to the schools who have achieved the furthest distances and medals to children who have completed their marathons.

Kids Run Free project manager Samantha Young said: “For many of the children, it will be their first time running on an athletics track and a great opportunity to experience running in a different environment.”
