Stephen Collins, who suffered a brain injury in June, has worked for WM Housing Group since he left school - and recently his boss, group engineering services manager Jeff Scott, along with other colleagues and members of his family, surprised him by throwing him a special lunch and presenting the donation to the Central England Rehabilitation Unit (CERU), where he is currently staying.

Jeff, who raised the funds with his team, said: “We all care about Stephen and we wanted to do our bit to help. We held raffles, a golf tournament, sold blackout cards and more - the staff really pulled out all the stops. Even our contractors were asking how they could help raise money for Stephen.”

Sue Bleasdale, general manager at CERU, said: “Stephen is very popular with everyone here at the hospital so it is no surprise to see people going to such lengths to raise money on his behalf.

“This money will make a real difference to the hospital and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped fundraise.”

CERU is a nationally-accredited neurological rehabilitation facility, which offers care to patients across the whole of the UK. It is the largest level 1 accredited facility available, offering treatment within a comfortable setting with access to state-of-the-art facilities that assist in providing patients with a comfortable environment to recover in.

Fundraising is vital at CERU as it enables the unit to create a home-from-home environment which benefits the patients, who are often there for long periods of time.
