Conman poses as security worker to steal money

The man presented himself at a house in Gresham Avenue on Monday August 26 at around 5.30pm, wearing a high visibility jacket, saying that he worked in security and wanted to survey the house in order to put up CCTV cameras.

The stranger asked the man to write down details of any crimes he was aware of and then asked to use the toilet upstairs.

When he came back downstairs he collected the notes the man had made and left the house.

The resident then found a small quantity of money, which had been upstairs near the stairs, was missing.

The man who called at the door is described as being a white, aged in his 30s and of a thin athletic build with short greying hair.

He spoke with a local accent and was wearing jeans and a high visibility jacket which had the words ‘traffic cops’ written on the back.

Police in Leamington would like to hear form anyone who saw the man or who knows who he is and anyone else who has been visited by someone using the same excuse to gain entry to their home.

Warwickshire Police officers do wear high visibility jackets, which clearly state ‘Warwickshire Police’ across the back, and also on the front.
