Cosplay heroes to bring smiles to faces of young patients at Warwick Hospital

Members of the International Charity Cosplayers group dressed as comic book and cartoon favourites including Spiderman, Wonder Woman, Captain America and Queen Elsa from Frozen will come from far and wide to visit the ward and pose for pictures with the young patients, some of whom will be spending Christmas at the hospital.

And the 15 cosplayers will also be delivering presents donated by fans and wrestlers at Phoenix Wrestling Association’s recent Christmas show.

Cosplay group founder and former pro-wrestler John Nursall, whose connections to the sport led to the present donations being made, said: “We all do it for fun and when you see the kid’s faces light up when they see their favourite hero then nothing compares to it.

“Recently we attended a Christmas event and more children wanted to be photographed with some Storm Troopers than sSanta so you see how popular it is with them.

“We’re just fans who like to dress up and put something back in for the children to enjoy.” The cosplayers will also be visiting Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Coventry for its Christmas party earlier in the day.

Mr Nursall, 41, who will be dressed as Dum Dum Dugan on the day and used to wrestle under the name of Thor the Assassin, said the aim of the visits was to raise awareness of both causes.

Group members have also teamed up with other Cosplayers and posed for a charity calendar to raise money for Baby Lifeline.

A family affair, Mr Nursall’s 14-year-old daughter Tori will be dressed as Selina Kyle and he often brings his seven-year-old son Riley, who has various cosplay costumes including Iron Man and Death Stroke, to events.
