Councillors to sit on new police panel

WARWICK District Council’s leader and another district councillor are to sit on a police and crime panel to oversee the work of the new police commissioner for Warwickshire.

The district council has agreed to appoint another councillor to sit, alongside leader Cllr Michael Doody, on the panel, which will also include representation from the other five main local authorities in the county’s policing area.

Elections for the new police and crime commissioners will take place on November 15 and the role will come into force on November 22.

The panel, which will be managed by Warwickshire County Council, will be given £30,000 from the Home Office to enable it to carry out its scrutiny functions.
