Jaspal and Sukhi Singh will bid farewell to their beloved Carlton Hotel on January 25 - and the couple have not ruled out shedding a few tears.

Having previously run businesses in Coventry together, the Singhs, who live in Dunchurch, bought the Carlton from a Portuguese family in 1980 and developed it from a seven-bedroom to a 19-bedroom hotel, which has achieved excellent ratings on TripAdvisor and for several years maintained a rating of 8.3 on bookings.com

Until recently, Mr Singh’s mother and two daughters also chipped in with jobs at the hotel, alongside the 18 staff who work there, described by Mr Singh as “loyal and excellent”.

The 65-year-old said: “We hope we don’t shed too many tears on the last day.

“We have loved the interaction with our guests. Some of our regular customers have been staying here for all 35 years we have been here. We will definitely miss them, as well as all our staff.

“We’re now looking forward to travelling, playing golf and sharing some time with our family.”
