Busy few days for Warwickshire Police as they make more drink-driving arrests

Officers are asking the public to provide intelligence about anyone they believe may be drink or drug driving in Warwickshire

Warwickshire Police have had a busy few days with more drink-driving arrests made across the county.

The force is publicising arrests made during December for drink or drug driving as a way of demonstrating how officers are being proactive in targeting people suspected of drink or drug driving.

This is part of a campaign aimed at changing people’s behaviour and reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on the county’s roads.

Officers also arrested a 45-year-old man from Birmingham on suspicion of drink driving at 2.40am on Tuesday (December 8) after stopping his car on the A46 northbound near Warwick.

He has been charged with drink driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and obstructing a police officer.

He is currently scheduled to appear at Magistrates Court in Leamington on January 8 2021.

On Monday (December 7) officers arrested a 36-year-old man from Rugby on suspicion of failing to provide a breath test after the car he was driving collided with a bridge in Thurnmill Road in Long Lawford, at 8.27pm.

There was significant damage to the vehicle. Fortunately he and two other occupants were not injured in the collision.

The 36-year-old has been released under investigation after spending more than 12 hours in police custody.

Also on Monday, a 20-year-old man from Coventry was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cannabis.

He was arrested at 12.52am after he was seen driving in Kenilworth and his vehicle was stopped by officers on London Road, Coventry. He has been released under investigation.

Then, following a single vehicle collision on Coventry Road in Rugby, which caused damage to street furniture and the vehicle, police arrested a 27-year-old man from Rugby at 12.45am on Sunday (December 6).

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, driving whilst disqualified, aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop, driving without insurance and obstructing a police officer.

The 27 year old had fled the crashed vehicle and shortly after was located in a taxi and requested to provide a specimen of breath.

He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

On Saturday (December 5) an 18-year-old man from Coventry was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cannabis at 10pm on Rowley Road in Baginton after a PCSO spotted what they believed to be cannabis in the vehicle.

Officers attended and he was arrested after a drug test. He has been released under investigation.

Police stopped a vehicle being driven by a 28-year-old woman from Rugby in Russelheim Way in Rugby after it is believed she was driving erratically.

She was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, drink driving and child neglect and later charged and is currently scheduled to appear before Warwickshire Magistrates on February 19 2021.

Then on Friday (December 4), following a three vehicle road traffic collision on Warwick Road, Kenilworth at 6.36pm, officers breath tested the drivers involved and a 37-year-old woman from Kenilworth was arrested and later charged with drink driving.

She is due to appear at magistrates court in Leamington on December 22.

A 41-year-old man from Leamington was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cocaine at 10.11am on Friday in Smith Street in Warwick.

He was pulled over due to a faulty brake light and asked to provide a sample. He has been released under investigation.

Officers are asking the public to provide intelligence about anyone they believe may be drink or drug driving in Warwickshire to police by dialling 101 or 999 if a suspected offence is in progress.
