The driver of a BMW 3-Series Coupe crashed today, May 28, after attempting to flee from police in Rugby.

Earlier today traffic officers from Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) Warwickshire were conducting stop checks on Lawford Road, near the cement works, as part of a national speeding campaign.

The driver then failed to stop for the police and fled towards Long Lawford.

He failed to evade the traffic officers, who are equipped with a range of performance cars, including a Ford Focus ST (pictured).

The driver eventually crashed into a hedge on Back Lane, and he was quickly captured and arrested.

It was then revealed that he had no insurance - and failed a roadside breath test.

In custody he blew a reading of 64ug over the legal limit.

The driver has been charged to court and police have recovered the car.
