Eight people were arrested in and around Warwickshire on suspicion of drink and drug driving offences over the New Year weekend.

The arrests were made as part of Warwickshire Police’s campaign to target those driving under the influence of drink or drugs over the festive period and help to improve the safety of the roads.

- A 19-year-old man from Keresley End was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cannabis following a three vehicle collision in Exhall Road, Keresley on New Year’s Eve night. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

- A 20-year-old woman from Bishops Tachbrook was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cannabis after officers stopped a car on the A45 near Rugby in the early hours of New Year’s Day. She has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

- A 29-year-old man from Leamington was arrested and charged with drink driving after officers stopped a car in Weston Close, Warwick in the early hours of New Year’s Day. He will appear at Warwickshire Magistrates’ Court on March 5.

- A 32-year-old man from Rugby was arrested and charged with drink driving after officers saw a car being driven erratically in Main Street, Bilton in the early hours of New Year's Day. He will appear at Warwickshire Magistrates’ Court on March 12.

- A 23-year-old man from Walsall was arrested and charged with drink driving after officers spotted a car being driven erratically in Leicester Road, Rugby on Friday evening (January 1). He will appear at Warwickshire Magistrates’ Court on March 5.

- A 20-year-old man form Coventry was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cannabis after officers stopped his car on the A444 near the Griff Island on Friday evening (January 1). He was released under investigation while enquiries continue.

- A 22-year-old man from Nuneaton was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent following a collision in Cambourne Drive, Horston Grange on Friday night (January 1). He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

- A 37-year-old man from Southampton was arrested and charged with drink driving, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, obstructing constables in the execution of their duties, and fraud and forgery offences after being arrested in Railway Terrace, Rugby in the early hours of Sunday morning (January 3). He was arrested after officers on patrol reportedly saw a man looking intoxicated getting into a car and driving off. He was due to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on January 4.
