Four men's plans ran aground earlier today, February 24, when they attempted to make off from police in Rugby - only to almost end up driving into a river.

This afternoon police attempted to stop a black Volvo hatchback in the town centre and a chase ensued.

Police used then a stinger to burst the cars tyres, resulting in it swerving off the road, hurtling down a grassy bank towards a river.

Luckily for the men, the car stopped before it became waterborne.

The four men fled and were then tracked down by a police dog.

A spokesperson for OPU (Operational Patrol Unit) Warwickshire said enquiries are currently ongoing.
