Jailed: Young man admitted to making about £500 each time he travelled to Rugby to sell drugs

A young man who admitted he made about £500 each time he travelled to Rugby to sell drugs has been jailed.

Jacob Rainbow had pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to two charges of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs – heroin and crack cocaine.

Rainbow (22) of Martival, New Humberstone, Leicester, who had also admitted possessing quantities of the two drugs, was jailed for two years and eight months.

Prosecutor William Douglas-Jones said that on Monday February 3 last year police officers saw Rainbow in a car in Park Road, Rugby, and suspected he was dealing drugs.

When the car was searched, the officers found a large number of individual deals of heroin and crack cocaine worth up to £690 in the glove box and on the floor on the passenger side.

Rainbow, who also had £350 in cash on him, was arrested, and after his phone was seized messages were found on it which showed he had been dealing in the two drugs.

When he appeared before magistrates in July this year, Rainbow, who had no previous convictions, admitted possessing the heroin and crack cocaine found on him.

And at the crown court in August he pleaded guilty to being concerned in their supply, explained Mr Douglas-Jones.

Oliver Kavanagh, defending, said: “This is a sad case. He is very immature and very reserved, and he’s on medication for anxiety and depression.

“He admitted everything, and that he had been to Rugby to sell drugs on a previous occasion.

“He admitted he earned about £500 each time he went to Rugby,” said Mr Kavanagh, who asked the judge to pass a sentence which was ‘short enough to be suspended.’

But Judge Barry Berlin refused, commenting: “These are serious offences, and they are taken seriously because the public, rightly in my judgement, take it seriously.

“People suffer from the peddling of hard drugs, and it perpetuates a problem.”

And he told Rainbow: “Such offending demands an immediate custodial sentence. This was a significant role, and the drug-dealing was over a period of time.”
